My First Negative Experience in the Czech Republic
Yesterday my cell phone was pickpocketed. It happened at one of the metro stations most frequently used by tourists. Email me if you need to get ahold of me. I swore this would never happen to me and it did.

Hi Karen,
That's horrible! I'm sure you feel violated as well as suddenly being without an important means of communication. Did you have your phone numbers backed up anywhere? Unfortunately, as in many cities, there are small groups who target crowded metros & trams in Prague. Another member of the Church congregation had her shoulder bag slashed and her wallet taken a few weeks ago. She didn't realise it had happened until ten minutes later. However despite both bad experiences, it has to be said that Prague is a far safer city to travel around in than London or many US cities, even as a single female.
I do have most of my phone numbers written down somewhere. You're right that Prague is an incredibly safe city.
My SIM card will be replaced for free and the money I had loaded on my phone will be rolled over which is also a good thing. If I had saved my cell phone box, I could also call and get the actual use of the phone blocked so the thief couldn't use it or sell it. That would be satisfying!
Hi Karen,
I'm really sorry to hear you were pick-pocketed! Wow...I'm happy you will have the credit rolled over and your SIM will be replaced for free.
It happens to even people who are natives (Czechs)...even to Jiri it has happened--when I first came, he was distracted, and his wallet (with $300 in Czech Kourna) was stolen by a group on the Metro.
I'm relieved that you were not hurt or anything! Let me know if you need anything!!!!
Sher :0)
I got pickpocketed in Prague - near the Radisson Hotel, at the tram station. I ran after the guy, caught him and nearly strangled him, until my husband told me to 'cut it out'. I looked through his backpack - like a crazy woman, but of course, the wallet was gone - they hand it over to someone else, etc... Was I mad though! And much younger than today!!! ;)
