The Beach Life, Where You Might Least Expect It
Wow, a sandy beach in Smichov on the river Vltava? Who knew? I had no idea! The New York Times has a report all about it (click on my title to read it).
Has anyone been there? Would you feel comfortable swimming in the Vltava? Can't say that I would. But I'd love the incongruity of enjoying the beach with Prague Castle in the background.

There is also a "beach" by Podoli on the other side of the river called Zlute Lazne.
I've been there with people who went swimming but wouldn't do it my self. The water seems a bit too dirty.

I havent been to the one in Smichov but I think it gets into the shade pretty early in the evening whereas by Zlute Lazne you can see the sun set behind the hills on the other side of the river.
Hi Michael, I swear I've walked along the river in this area and I just remember a walkable quay and restaurants.
Did you see what a good architecture eye you have? The Palace Adria, is rondo-cubism as you suspected and that architect worked with Josef Gocar (see my Futursita post). You are so observant! Thanks for the link to my Legiobank post from your pics.
