How Hot is It in Istanbul?

Is he alive or dead?

Cats and dogs are allowed to roam free in Istanbul. During these dog days of summer, I often find an animal in my path who is so immobile and looks so hot, I find myself talking to them just to see if they're alive. You can't always tell! Luckily, this long hair was just trying to move as little as possible in the heat.

Ha! I've often thought the same thing lately as I've been walking around Istanbul. Poor kitties have their tongues hanging out and look half dead in this heat!

Are there frequently placed water bowls for the animals?

I don't think Turkish cats miss any meals or water. Many people enjoy feeding them.

The deep attachment to cats which I witnessed among residents in Istanbul...gives me a lot of confidence that there won't be any mass, heat -induced feline burials anytime soon:)

People often give water in bowls. And there are a lot of campaigns for this. NGOs and animal right activists are trying to make people understand why water is very important for the animals.

Especially in Istanbul people love cats and dogs.
